The Microscopy Society of Malaysia (MSM), known in Malay as Persatuan Mikroskopi Malaysia, was officially established on April 23, 1991, under its original name Persatuan Mikroskopi Elektron Malaysia. As the field of microscopy and microanalysis rapidly evolved, the society embraced a broader vision and, in 2010, adopted its current name to reflect its expanded scope and inclusivity. Today, MSM stands as a nationally and internationally respected organization, representing Malaysia’s microscopy community and championing the advancement of microscopy and microanalysis techniques. Driven by a commitment to foster critical, independent, and innovative scholarship, MSM leads several flagship initiatives. These include the biennial Scientific Conference of the Microscopy Society of Malaysia (SCMSM) and the publication of the Malaysian Journal of Microscopy (MJM)—both serving as vital platforms for knowledge exchange and scientific excellence. Beyond these, MSM actively collaborates with various institutions and networks to support workshops, training programs, and outreach activities. The society is dedicated to cultivating an inclusive and dynamic environment where members can share expertise, build meaningful connections, and pursue excellence in microscopy across diverse disciplines in Malaysia.
Our members come from different institutions and countries around the world.
Our annual event provides an opportunity to gather and share new findings in microscopy.
We have published 20 volumes of the journal since 2005.
Our membership grows every year. Join us today!

Advancing knowledge and fostering collaboration through the lens of innovation, the Microscopy Society Malaysia bridges diverse scientific disciplines to illuminate the unseen and drive discoveries that shape our world.
This volume highlights common artifacts in microscopic slides and TEM images of aquatic animals and insects, aiming to enhance accuracy in analysis. Another paper discusses the improvement of soil quality using microbial treatment with vegetable waste and polyethylene plastic,...
This volume features diverse research. One study explores the potential of basidiomycetes in valorizing empty fruit bunches for ruminant roughage. Another investigates the occurrence and morphology of Cysticercus fasciolaris in wild rodents from Penang.
This volume features diverse research. One study synthesizes CNT cotton/ZnO nanocomposite using waste cooking oil as a biotemplate. Another investigates the effect of gamma 60Co irradiation on the morphology of carbon/sodium lauryl sulfate using SEM-EDS.
This volume features an array of groundbreaking research. Highlighted studies include the creation of a pollen calendar for stingless bees in Terengganu, and the isolation of reticulocytes from human stem cells for malaria research. The analysis of gentamicin-impregnated...
This volume presents a diverse collection of research articles. The first paper discusses the development of cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol-titanium dioxide (PVA/TiO2) film for antibacterial coating on steel. Another study investigates the wear behaviour and properties of RHA...
This volume presents a diverse range of research articles. The first paper compares the mechanical properties of 3D printed PLA and PLA/aluminium composites using fused deposition modeling technique. Another study examines the film thickness, diametral tensile strength, and...
